Today I met Mohammed at the Tea House in Pitaria. We had a good conversation, and talked a lot about movies. He told me that in Saudi Arabia movie theaters were banned, which I had’t realized. I asked him if he enjoyed going to other movie theaters, like when he was in Kuwait and the United States. He said he did like it. I then asked him if he wanted movie theaters in Saudi Arabia and he said no, but couldn’t explain why. I also introduced him to Netflix and told him he should really get a free trial so that he could watch lots of movies in English.

At the beginning of the session he told me that he wanted me to correct him every time he made a mistake, which I usually did, but sometimes it was hard too. Sometimes I would re-arrange his words in the middle of something he was saying, but he wouldn’t repeat it. I got in the habit of saying it a couple times and then he would say it back to me. I also wrote down lots of words and phrases, whenever he didn’t know what they were. I really hope that I’m helping him and that he does not get discouraged in learning English. He explained to me that he has to learn English very quickly for his job. I told him he was doing a great job and to just keep practicing and speaking as much as possible.
