Zoe CO #2

For my second classroom observation, I sat in on Joshua Valentine's group 3 reading class. They have been reading through a novel titled Hatchet over the past seven weeks, and it just so happened that I chose to participate on the day that they finally finished the novel! How exciting! Now, when I say "participate," I mean that Joshua actually allowed me to assist in teaching the class by reading the novel out-loud. This served as fantastic practice for me! At first, I was told that I was reading way too quickly, but I eventually found my pace and everyone was able to easily follow me. The novel followed the journey of a man who, after surviving a plane crash, was struggling for his life on a deserted island. After a few months, he was finally saved, so the novel had a happy ending. Periodically, we would stop to go over certain words or phrases, such as what it means to "lose your temper." The whole class was engaged and seemed to hold a high level of respect for Joshua, which I thought was pretty awesome. Overall, I had a lot of fun in this class!
