Zoe CO #3
For my final classroom observation, I sat in on Candace Walters' group 3 speaking class. The first thing that I noticed was that the size of this class was very small compared to the others classes that I've seen, as there were only nine students in the entire class! The second thing that I noticed was that one of my tutoring partners, Wei, was in the class. When Candace pulled up the page on the projector to take attendance, I saw that Wei has been absent more often than any of his other classmates, which I thought was kind of funny. I definitely chose an interesting day to observe, because they were doing project presentations! Four students spent 7-8 minutes each discussing useful devices, including rice cookers, bike lights, and hybrid vehicles. Each student had prepared a tri-fold for their presentation, complete with pictures, statistics and descriptions. I actually learned quite a bit about each device, especially when it came to hybrid cars! When each presentation was complete, Candace would ask the class how each speaker incorporated pathos, ethos, and logos into their speeches. I thought that this was a very interesting and highly useful aspect to bring into the lesson. After the presentations were over, Candace asked the class if they felt like they had learned a lot throughout the last few weeks, and the students explained how they had grown since the beginning of the year. It was a very engaging and informative session!
