Feedback provided to tutee: brainstorming

Shuo must give a panel discussion on a group project she was part of during her undergraduate career. In this panel discussion she will be expected to explain what she brought to the project. I don't believe she understood the assignment, as she was prepared to explain the project but not her contributions. To be more clear, she is required to discuss what skills, strengths, etc she brought to the project. I think other students who presented before her misunderstood the prompt and spoke about how the project benefited them. So, most of this tutoring session was spent explaining the prompt to Shuo. I believe she was having a hard morning, in that she was having a hard time understand me than usual. I can relate to this in my own language learning, as I know there are just some days when you can't seem to understand the other language.

We did a brainstorming activity in which I ended up helping her figure out what her role in the project was. We then worked on making an outline for her presentation. I am wondering if there is a cultural issue here, as she is a Chinese student and possible reticent to speak of her individual role?
