Classroom Management
15 Minutes: Cultural exercise – The class was divided in
Teams, each Team will develop the information requested below.
Discover, explain and demonstrate from your first culture
point of view, the appropriate or expected behavior (verbal and nonverbal) in
situations like greetings, how to get the teachers attention, how close stand
next to each other while talking, offer something to someone and disagree with
someone. He asked each team to develop several demonstrations.
5 Minutes: Each Team
Discussed why it is important to behave the way your first
culture requires and how could the behavior affect teaching and learning.
10 Minutes: Teams presented results.
It was very interesting to hear cultural differences
especially on how different doe’s cultures greet.
15 minutes – Each group worked developing a poster
presentation and how will they share it with CIES and TEFL students. Ramin requested 3 examples of behavior that
differ between students first culture and school partners. Why is important to
behave in this way. How the behavior could affect teaching and learning and
finally, the visible and invisible aspects of culture in your examples.
15 Minutes: Ramin walked around teams helping with the
Poster design process and provided feedback. Other CIES professor was helping
the students.
Final comment – Decide who will prepare the materials and
email one time all materials to Ramin and he will print it.
It was an amazing cultural exercise; I wish I had the time
to be part of the class from day one.
