Skill – Speaking
He selected as usual a book from Mary Pope Osborne titled “Sunset of the Saber tooth” – Dairy of a wimpy kid. He read one chapter really fast and he wrote a summary in 90 seconds. I did ask Matthew why he always reads Mary Pope’s books and he did not wanted to answer my question. I tried to reason with him of how advantageous will be for him to consider other types of books for his age.

I helped him with his math homework and reviewed his writing, suggested some editions and made them.

I brought with me samples of 2 types of rocks and to my surprise Matthew started talking about his interest in rocks. I shared with him some facts about the rocks that I have on my collection. Gave him a small rock sample as I promised from our last conversation and he was really happy. Gradually he is becoming more communicative and looks forward to see other types of rocks.

Lesson Learned: I cannot give up on my quest to find out why Matthew does not want to read for homework other books besides Mary Pope’s.  Always provide the mother with a brief report on what is going on with the tutoring.
