TP Session 11 – 2/13/2015
On Friday, after tutoring Val, I
went to Ali’s house to help him with his IELTS practice. He explained to me
that he had been having trouble making it to his classes at CIES. After some
playful chastising, I sat down with him to work on the Speaking section of the
IELTS, which had I decided should be the focus of our first focused IELTS
practice. We discussed the three parts of the speaking section, and what they
consisted of. We did a practice run of the interview section, about five
minutes, and Ali did pretty well. I realized that I needed to prepare a list of
official practice questions next time though, because I started running out of
questions and couldn’t keep the pressure on him as much as I wanted. The second
section was much more difficult for Ali, and it became clear to both of us that
he wasn’t used to talking on his own for long periods of time. We’ll have to
work on that, so he can get closer to filling the entire two-minute period. We
finished by talking about listening practice. He has watched some Jim Carrey
and Jason Statham movies and enjoyed them, so I suggested finding more movies
with those actors and watching as much as possible.
