I met again with Shuo at CIES. She did not have homework and informed me that she would be taking TOEFL soon and needed practice with the speaking part. I intend on work with her on this in most of our future lessons. I showed her some of the techniques we learned in class for the speaking section of the TOEFL. I explained to her that she should start writing as soon as she understood the prompt and that she should have a form to fill in already laid out. I'm not sure she understood this, but I made her practice it a few times with prompts we found on the internet. I emphasized that she needed to relax and stay on the subject. We did a few different prompts and I think it helped her to follow the "In my view....for a couple of reasons...first...second..." format.
We also had a discussion about Valentine's Day and how to throw a surprise party. Shuo seems to be learning a lot culturally!
