Zoe TP #8

For my next session with Wei, I allowed Timothy to observe our meeting. We met at our usual place, the Starbucks across from CIES, and discussed several interesting topics. For some reason, we spent a lot of time talking about cigarettes and alcohol, and the differences between the consumption of the two in the United States compared to their consumption in China. Over the course of that conversation, I had mentioned fraternities in passing, and realized that Wei had no knowledge of Greek life at universities. Since nearly 20% of undergraduates at Florida State are in a fraternity or a sorority (myself excluded), I thought that it was important for him to at least have a vague understanding of how they worked. He appreciated this, because he had been curious as to what the random buildings around campus with the Greek letters were! I also explained the plot of Space Jam to him, since he enjoys basketball and is a big Michael Jordan fan, which was pretty funny. What wasn't funny was sharing the news that Jordan's college coach, Dean Smith, had passed away this past week. Wei was upset to hear that. He is a very engaging and interested student, and we learn a lot from each other!
