Location: CIES, 5:30pm.

Skill –Speaking - (pronunciation).

Helped Ramon writing and editing a composition developed following an outline, he wrote about Why he wants to Learn English. He is a mature person who wants to retire to south Florida on a nearby future. He like be able to communicate with people without making mistakes like grammar or pronunciation.

He wrote the sentences and I reviewed the word selection and suggested changes. I helped him select advance level words for his writing assignment, he learned some new vocabulary.

Since Ramon has some pronunciation issues, I selected a short story called “Visit the Ocean” and asked to read it out loud, he made 11 errors. Like filled he pronounced literally in Spanish and helped him understand the correct pronunciation (fɪld). Interesting the word stand he tends to add an e at the beginning which is like estand and I corrected again his pronunciation.  Example of words in which he had problems were first, dug, filled, picked, edge, water, both, stand, sat, holes, and wet.

Lesson Learned: I will keep emphasizing the importance of paying attention of which vowel or consonant carries the weight of the pronunciation.  He is happy with the help and attention he is getting through tutoring.
