Meredith CP IE #5

This session we made a definitive list of the three cultural differences we would put on our tri-fold board. We decided on 1) greeting someone older, 2) Eye contact when in trouble with a teacher, and 3) Receiving something. These are three grounds that we were able to find the most interesting differences in culture. We assigned different roles for us to have, so we have most things printed and ready to complete the project on the last Thursday of the semester. I wish I had gone to every IE session, because I really enjoy them. It is so fun to talk to Shahd and Shuo, along with everyone else, and just learn a few things from a different perspective.
In our project, I noticed that many of the differences we found were things that China and Saudi Arabia had in common and were different from the United States. I was a little surprised about, just because I never think of the cultures of China and Saudi Arabia being that similar. The two countries, in my mind, represented two very different areas of Asia. So that was definitely interesting to learn that their customs were often similar compared to the United States. It was interesting to see the United States as the outlier so often.
