Location: Joshua Valentine's Listening Class (Level 4A)
We began this class with a vocabulary description game. There were two teams. One person would sit facing away from the whiteboard. Josh would write a word on the board, and the teams had to explain and define the word without saying part or all of the word. I was on one of the teams, but I didn't know the vocabulary so it was a little harder for me. I did get the words most of the time though!
This was a very fast-paced, fun game and I would definitely use it in future lesson plans. The students got very competitive but they had a lot of fun. Then after the game Josh had the students open their books and answer agree/disagree questions. This allowed for a lot of conversation and allowed the students to express themselves. We then began a video about language (but we didn't have enough time to finish the video). It was a lecture at Yale University, and I found that the professor was using complex vocabulary. Definitely i+1 for the students' level, I think.
Basically, Josh is a great teacher and really listens to his students. Kudos.
