Skill – Grammar Pronouns and Reading subject
He had a pronoun exercise; he read the story “The oak tree
and the tiny bird”. I told him the definition of pronouns and he identified
them in the story. He found some possessive pronouns like theirs, ours and some
subject pronouns like we, she and he. Helped him identified the point of view
of the story in fact the narrator was part of it like a third person writing.
He selected as usual a book from Mary Pope Osborne titled “The
Bamboo Book” – he wrote a brief summary and I helped him with his math homework.
I brought with me a short (page and a half) story about a
Red fox, level appropriate for 4th grade. Matthew did not wanted to
read the story he said that it had too many words and his mom does not want him
reading such a story. It sounded way different from what the mother told me. I will keep on trying to help him reason about
the importance of reading a diversity of subjects from different authors.
Lesson Learned: The mother gave me a piece of paper with
some vocabulary for a Friday test, when Matthew and I reviewed it then I
noticed an old date. Immediately he cut the paper in pieces without giving me a
chance for consultation with the mother because according to him he already
completed the task. I need to keep on my hand any piece of homework that I need
to review with the mother.
