Docster TP #5

On Wednesday I met with Ali and his friend Kailet to help them prepare for the IELTS. We found a grammar quiz made up of previous IELTS exam questions. Ali did quite well for his proficiency level, getting a little over half of the questions correct. There were some vocabulary terms that he was unfamiliar with, and the difference in British grammar rules sometimes threw me off as well. We were able to talk through why certain phrases were correct for British grammar, but not casual American conversation. I emphasized before leaving the need for individual study, as the actual examination will require both students to read, comprehend, and correctly answer the same amount of questions in about a third of the time. We will continue to meet about once a week until next Thursday when I will have more free time to tutor. Ali tried to press me to meet with him more often, and even offered me payment (which I of course refused), but I was able to convey that he was not my only student and that I have a full class schedule myself.
