CP Session 4 - 1/31/2015

I met with Ali for the second time on Saturday at a Mexican restaurant near the McDonald’s across from CIES. We had a great meal, and talked at length, mostly about school, language, and culture. I learned that many Eastern Arabic speakers understand Egyptian Arabic, but not the other way around, simply because Egypt is by far the largest producers of movies in the region. I have since talked to an Egyptian who gave the exact same reason. We began talking about the IETLS test, which I didn’t know much about before then. Ali’s language skills feel much better than they were a week ago. My guess is that he’s just more comfortable talking to me now. I’ll have to keep that in mind when I’m teaching, and try to make my students comfortable around me. We decided at the end of our meeting to start working on IELTS together, maybe with a couple of his friends. I’m looking forward to the experience!
