I realized I forgot to blog about the tutoring session I had with Youngseo last week, so this is a bit older, but I will reflect on her progress in general. Last week, we did a lot of reading and reading comprehension. We used a Disney princess workbook that I brought. Some of the words were pretty complex, so I had to stop to explain them. We switched on and off, with me reading about 60% of the time, and she about 40%. Because of this, it was also a listening exercise for her. I told her to really pay attention so she could see how I was pronouncing the words. Even though this reading level was sort of challenging for her, she still managed. Since she loves Disney princesses so much, she had enough schema to handle it. Also because she liked it, I think she had more patience with learning new words.

When we did the reading comprehension questions, she didn’t get them all right, and sometimes we would have to go back to look for the answer. Overall though, I’m glad I gave her something a bit more advanced, because it’s good for her to practice intensive reading from time to time.
