TP Session #5: 1/25/2015
I met with Badah on Saturday, and
worked with him on his homework. We reviewed the writing lesson we had done
last week, and moved on to grammar. He was working on a work sheet where he
changed sentences into “used to” sentences. I did my best to guide without
doing the work for him. We figured out that we have to change the form to “use
to” when the sentence is a question or a negative.
We then talked about reading, since
he was having trouble finding things for his reading log. He asked me for
specific places where he could find reading material online. I talked about
finding things online that he was interested in and using that for his logs.
For example, he told me he was interested in sports, so I suggested googling
Lionel Messi, and reading his Wikipedia page or a current news article about
him. I told him how I routinely Google things to read that I’m interested in,
and how I used to read Wikipedia articles in Spanish for practice. We talked
about other sports-related subjects he could possibly tackle. He had never
learned about Rugby before, so after talking about it for a little while, he
decided to start reading about it and including it in this reading log. He
seemed much more enthusiastic about his reading after that.
