Docster CO #3
On Monday I observed Candace Walter's level 3 speaking class. She first went over the agenda, then spoke briefly about the guidelines for a presentation project the class would be working on the following lesson. The lesson topic was the "-ed" sound. Candace used examples first, putting the rule into practice before explaining it explicitly. After explaining the rule, she had the class play a game in two teams, where they would write the past form of a regular verb given by Candace (resulting in the "-ed" suffix) in a column based on the sound the end of the word made ('t', 'd', or 'id'). Once the word was in the correct column, the student was required to pronounce and use the word in a sentence. A point was awarded to each team for each correct word. This game took about fifteen minutes. The rest of the class was devoted to filling in an outline worksheet for the presentation projects. Candace spoke briefly about the parts of the presentation, such as hook, body, transitions, and conclusion. After that, she walked around and gave feedback to individual students about their topics.
