Elyce TP #4

On Wednesday, January 21st, I had my second tutoring session with Zoe Oh and Rina Oh at the Oh Residence. Both girls were very eager to learn again, and told me about how their past week at school had gone.

The girls' mom, Joanna, had asked for me to review Zoe and Rina's homework with them, and read a book with them. I had noticed during the last tutoring session that Zoe and Rina really liked Disney princesses, so I brought with me a book that I had found at Barnes and Noble that had a lot of Disney Princess stories. After we reviewed their homework, I let Zoe and Rina pick out a story from the book that they wanted to read. They chose to read the story of Aladdin. While we were reading, I corrected Zoe and Rina's punctuation and made a list of words that they had trouble with. After they were done, I had them go over the words again. At the end of the session I let them play a game of boggle, which is a game that I had brought with me. In this game, you find words from the cubes that are in a square. The girls really enjoyed the game and they learned a few new words in the process.

Zoe and Rina speak very good English for only having been in America for a year. Their problem is not so much with word meaning, but as with pronunciation. I feel like after practice and with time they will eventually overcome this.
