I met Saturday with Ahmad, who I learned goes by Jack. We got some frozen yogurt at Yogurt Mountain. I think he had been there a few times and liked it, because he chose for us to meet there. We started out by talking about my recent trip to Gasperilla in Tampa. It was kind of hard to explain because its just a big pirate parade. I also am unsure of what I can and cannot talk to him about when drinking is involved, because I know he does not drink because of his religion. Something so little does have a big effect, because being here in a college town, a lot of night time activities involve drinking and I don't want to offend him by talking about something he cannot relate to. He told me about his recent trip to Panama City Beach and the famous night club there, La Vela. Again, I was not sure what I should and should not say, because I don't really have experience with going to night clubs and not drinking, so when he said that it wasn't very fun I wasn't sure what to say. The conversation never got awkward or weird, I just started asking him questions about something else, like the video he has been filming for CIES. He told me all about what he had already filmed and showed me a clip. It was really good! He said he was doing a part on Conversation Partners and would like for me to be in it. He told me all about the rest of the things he needs to film. Its really cool listening to him talk about it because he clearly has a passion for film and is happy with the product that he's producing. He even handed me a new business card he had made to pass around the film school. We talked for a while longer, a lot about testing like the TOFEL and the SAT. He has taken the SAT but did poorly because he is not very good at math. I told him about the ACT and how it has science, which I am very bad at. We finished by talking about his favorite teachers at CIES, personality wise and teaching wise, and recommended a few for me to sit in on for my classroom observations. Overall it was a fun meeting and I'm glad we got a chance to hangout and talk.
