Burns - TP X9

On February4, Dae and I met for an hour to discuss progress on his journal article and to expand Dae's schema s he prepares to begin an doctoral program this summer.  He realizes that he will attend a very large university where native America students will know quite a bit about recent history, politics and at that level, many will have well-formed opinions about major social-political-cultural events since 1960.  So we devoted a majority of our time discussing generational differences regarding priorities, opinions and memories from my generation to that of my children.  He felt my perspective might be closer to his professors and my children's might be closer to his peer doctoral students.  Dae had several questions and has a better feel for certain aspects of American culture that are important to young Americans in graduate and doctoral programs.  The "deal" we made was, after the next review of his journal article, that he will return the favor about Korean culture and the level of concern in South Korea about North Korea and the leadership elite in Pyongyang.  We have expanded our work to preparing him to write at a high level and to have an intelligent comprehension of American culture.
