Docster TP #14

On Monday evening I met with Hector at CIES. He wanted to improve his composition so we used a couple of different prompts from a TOEFL preparation book as essay questions. Hector wanted to write three paragraph essays instead of the five suggested by the book, as he was more comfortable with this length. While there were a lot of grammar mistakes in the writing (not a surprise for his skill level), the message was mostly clear which I emphasized to him after reading his essay aloud so he could hear the mistakes. The communicative aspect of his writing is obviously strong, he simply needs more time to acquire vocabulary and grammatical conventions. After he completed the two essays, I introduced him to the format of the five paragraph essay, since he will eventually be taking the TOEFL examination. We then picked another topic as a prompt, and I guided Hector through creating an outline. We completed the majority of the outline, but there were still some specific details missing. I asked Hector (if he chooses) to complete the outline and to complete the essay if he would like further feedback.
