I observed Ryan Flemming’s level 4A, grammar class. The
topic of discussion was complex connectors and adverb clauses. He began the
class by presenting examples of adverb clauses on a 4 page power point presentation.
He suggested to the class that they take notes. Most of the students were
taking photos of the slides so they would have all of the information. He gave
examples sentences and had the students identify the subordinate adverb
clauses. He also went over time clauses, ex: “When she called”. He had nice enthusiasm.
He utilized www.random.org to display time
allotment of exercises on the board. Lastly, he played ‘pass the paper’. He
started the story with a time clause, “When he was in New York.” The students
had to continue the story. At the end the students read the completed story
aloud and he provided error correction.
