Tutoring Session #9
February 12th, 2015
19:30-21:00
Tonight I had a tutoring session with Ahmed after TEFL class out at
Campus Circle. We more or less covered the same material as Hector and I
covered in our last session, namely, modals. Unlike my session with Hector,
however, this session focused more heavily on reading and writing than
speaking. We started with I short reading I had found on an ESL website dealing
with college life in the United States and the experiences of international students
that was very modal heavy. We read through, stopping here and there for
comprehension checks and to discuss our opinions.
We then went through the reading a second time to establish it as a
model for the next activity. We broke the paragraphs down by topic to make an
outline; then, I set a timer for ten minutes and we wrote about our own
experiences in the format of the outline. When the time was up, we went through
both for error correction, focusing mainly on adherence to the outline, proper
use of modals, and subject verb agreements.
