On Friday, February 13th, I had my fourth tutoring session with Advanced Foundations student, Angelica. We met at the starbucks near campus after she was done with CIES school for the day. It always impresses me how hard Angelica works. She was already studying, and had prepared a list of questions for me when I had arrived.
First, Angelica gave me a list of vocabulary words that she had heard from day to day but didn't quite understand the meaning. I explained to her what each word meant, and used it in a sentence so that she could see how it was used in context. After this, she had me give her sentences using the first person form of to have and to go, and she would write a sentence using the second person 'you' form. She said that this helped her communicate with people in day to day life.
Angelica uses these tutoring sessions as more of a way to advance her conversational skills, instead of for homework help like my other Advanced Foundations student, Saaja. I think that this is very interesting, and that it is likely because she studies so much in addition to school and our tutoring sessions.
