I observed Vicky's Speaking Level 1 class. She has a very rambunctious class. It is small- only 12 students- but there are a lot of large personalities in it. Most of the class period was spent on yes or no questions. She played a game called yes/no/laugh. Where one person is in the hot seat and the rest of the class asks them yes or no questions. However, the person in the hot seat cannot answer with yes or no. They have to say, "I am" "I do" or a phrase like that. It was a lot of fun and the class got really into it. It was a way for students to interact and have fun together but also learn.
After that, Vicky started talking about information questions. These are the 5 W questions. The class discussed them and then went over a worksheet about it. Everyone seemed to grasp the concept pretty well.
I really like Vicky as a teacher. She is very peppy and has a lot of enthusiasm, which is really important for a Level 1 class since they are still relatively new to learning English. However, some students were disrespectful throughout class and she has no problem being stern when necessary which is important.
I really liked the class and it gave me some interesting ideas about doing activities as a class.
