Briggs CP#4

At the beginning of class we were informed that we were going to make a presentation highlighting 3 distinct cultural customs. We all looked at each other bug-eyed. We have to present?! Oh my, this is serious. After the shared momentary panic we got to work quickly and we worked well as a group. Sarah and Saddam looked to me for direction and I suggested we bring up the way one calls upon a teacher/waiter in Chad. They snap to get the teacher's attention. Okay, but guess what else? When they are addressing their teacher, they do not hold eye contact for long, as it is seen as disrespectful and defiant. Saddam was just as surprised to learn snapping to call a waiters attention was a faux pas in America. After some discussion, we decided on three examples. Then we began to discuss how we were going to exibit these example through photographs and summary text. We drew a diagram of how we would lay out the presentation for the board. I encouraged Sarah to use her design skills (she studies interior design) in order to make the board more visually appealing. I brought in magazines, scissors, and glue but we did not have time to put together the board until the following class.
