This evening I met with my second Conversation Partner, Ahmad. This experience was very different from my meeting with Marvin. While Marvin's English was pretty good, Ahmad's was great. He spoke English perfectly, with only a tiny accent at times. When I asked him what his biggest weakness in English was, he replied, "Nothing." He explained his writing and grammar were prefect, and that his teachers at CIES always tried to find mistakes in his writing but they never did. We talked for a long time about many things like religion, our futures, and his past of how he ended up here at CIES. He is from Kuwait and left his family and friends to come to America to pursue a career in film. I enjoyed our meeting and we plan on meeting again at the same time next week.

  1. It seems like a lot of the CIES students are from Kuwait. It's interesting to see that Ahmad is interested in film, though, because every other student from Kuwait that I've spoken with want to work in the oil industry after college. Did he learn about American culture through movies?
