Today I met with Claire again, my youngest tutoring partner. She told me today that she got a 100% on her last AR test on the book we read last week! After some small talk about what we did this weekend we began coloring in a coloring book I brought her. While coloring Claire and I talked about her favorite school subjects, math and reading, and her least favorite, spelling. After coloring we began reading. The first book we read was about the 3 Little Pigs And the Not So Bad Wolf. Claire enjoyed reading this book and understood it fully, making few mistakes while reading it. Next, we read a book about the sun and how it gives energy to everything on earth. The book mainly taught about the process of photosynthesis, which Claire couldn't say, explaining how the process works. Claire had a lot of questions on this book because it taught how plants take in CO2 and give out O2. So basically, Claire learned how we breath today. That was all the time we had for this session.
Claire is very interested in reading but sometimes reads too fast, missing small words like the or an. She does very well reading on her own, but sometimes we have to go back and reread pages so that she can get the main idea of what is going when larger words are present.
