Yesterday I met with Hesham. We ate dinner at Momo's pizza. I asked him what he did this weekend and he said he went to Cantina with some of his friends and also played Charades the next night. He said he had difficulty playing Charades because he did not know a lot of the words or how to act them out. After sharing our weekend stories, I asked him what his plans for this weekend were. He told me that he is going back to Valdosta to visit one of his friends that just got married! Hesham said his classes at CIES are going well and that he has a presentation next week. He also told me that he does not get along with some of the Arabic CIEs students because he does not want to speak Arabic with them. Instead, he wants to speak english when he is outside of the classroom in order to get more practice. I respect Hesham's attitude and understand that he is here to learn english, but speaking Arabic sometimes will help him maintain his Arabic speaking skills and help him to make friends at CIES. Hesham is also beginning his practices with the CIES soccer team, which he enjoys.
Hesham speaks english very well and it is not difficult speak with him. He needs to increase his vocabulary, which will gradually happen over time. He also reiterated how hard english grammar is, which is again, something he will get better with in time through the CIES program and by using grammar.
